Why did you do that?

In the last week my professor had us do something strange outside the classroom. He had us walk around the floor we were currently on while doing simple commands. Those commands were looking at a wall, spinning, stopping, continue walking until this point, and touching the emergency phone box. After we returned to the classroom and to our seats he asked us why we did it. The more popular answer was that he was the teacher and we had to do what he said. That answer raises another question “why do we have to listen to him?” At the very beginning we are taught to listen to authority figure’s commands that are reasonable. For example, if the teacher told you to go stand outside you will do it, but you wouldn’t give him your money if commanded too. The real reason why the entire class did that exercise was because an authority figure gave us a reasonable command. If obedience wasn’t beaten into us from early childhood, maybe no one would have done it.
