Down To Earth Sociology pages 63-72

Prison is a institution for criminals to be taken out fo society and possibly reformed. The problem with reforming prisoners is what to do with them. What happens to reformed prisoners is being released back into society. Great! But, what do they do now? When someone has a criminal record they have a harder time finding a job. What happens is that the employers look for quick ways to go through a application. A decent amount will immediately reject you if they see that you were in prison. Another problem with finding a job is being African American. There is still racial discrimination going on which results in rejection. They believe the stereotypes that were passed down. In the book “Down To Earth Sociology” they reported that in a non con blacks to have a harder time then con whites. In general, having a criminal background is normally a barrier when trying to get a job. Race can also have an impact on your rejection/acceptance.
